Take Preston Out to the Ballgame!

Written by Rachel Phelps

At Barkworld I was talking to several pals about my experiences going to a baseball game..so I thought I would repost this so everyone can read about my fun adventures this summer!

Hi Pals, I had a neat experience a few weeks ago. Elvis and I went to our first minor league baseball game. It was dog days at the park at the Bowling Green (Kentucky) Hot Rods minor league baseball team. Bowling Green is about an hour away from my house so on Sunday afternoon we loaded up in the car with our mom and dad and headed out. I was so excited!.I got to spend all day with my parents and we weren’t just invited we were the guest of honor (well with all the other dogs) at the game. As soon as we pulled up in the parking lot I saw dogs of all different sizes and shapes with their pet parents. They even had a full agility course set up for us to try. I was all over that course like a flea to a dog. I have my own course (ok I know I’m spoiled hehehe). But mine is made out of PVC pipe and this course was the good stuff..wood. There was an A-frame, two tunnels, some jumps, a see-saw and a dog walk. The first time I went though it I did ok and just kinda walked/trotted though it. I had to learn the lay of the land. But the second time I was amazing if I do say so myself hehehe. I raced through that course and set a record time for the whole city of Bowling Green…ok well maybe not but I did show people that westies can jump! Here are some photos of me.

Well, then it was time for Elvis to try..all I can say is poor Elvis. He just isn’t an agility dog. He tried really hard but the only way he would go up and down the A-frame was if there was a treat on each step. Forget the jumps he went under them. And when he got up on the dog walk (bridge) he just froze and wouldn’tmove forward or backwards. I ended up going up on it to save the day and he followed me off. Needless to say the rents didn’t make him go through the course again. But here are some photos of Elvis trying agility. I do have to admit he did look cute in the photos hehehe.

At the game we met up with some of mom’s sorority friends who are also members of her alumnae chapter. One of them Melissa owns a wonderful photography company called Chocie Media Productions and she knew I was a model so she took some wonderful photos of me. But if you are in the Bowling Green area and need someone to snap some photos of your pets, kids, family, wedding, etc. give her a call!

It was almost time for the game to start so we entered the stadium and they had another surprise for us dogs..bags of dog treats from Hills! Not just one bag but as we walked to our seat people just kept giving us bags of treats..we got 10 bags total..that was 9 bags for me and one for Elvis! I admit I got a little bored after a couple of innings but Elvis loved the game. He sat on mom’s lap and watched the ball the whole time. I guess being a puppy mill dog and never been on the “outside” the whole concept of humans chasing a ball just fascinated him. Here are some photos of us at the stadium.

But Elvis being the playboy he is took the opportunity to hit on one of mom’s friends Cathy. She sat in the seat in front of him and he made a move and put his paw on her shoulder. That just caused her to melt and I think by the end of the game she had “puppy dog’ eyes for Elvis!

In the end the Hot Rods won! We were glad but personally if dogs were out there playing instead of humans it wouldn’t have taken us hours to catch the baseball!

Overall we had a lot of fun and we hope the rents will take us to another game soon.
