Barkaroo Recap

Written by Rachel Phelps

Doesn’t that name just want to make you howl..bark – a- roooooooooo 🙂 I recently had the opportunity to go to a neat outdoor festival just for us dogs called Barkaroo – The middle Tennessee Dog Festival. It is an outdoor festival held in Murfressboro TN (which is south of Nashville.) When we got there I was amazed at how many dogs were there. There was dogs of all shapes and sizes and all were ready to have fun! They had dozens of vendors there with tents set up selling about everything under the sun from treats to Tennessee Titans dog jerseys. Rescue groups also had tables and several doggies found there forever homes that day as well. Even though I was ready to meet and mingle my main mission was to see my pal Madison. She is a very pretty westie that I met at a westie meet this summer.

After we met up we had a plan…that was to win the covenanted titles of Mr. and Miss Barkaroo! These are very prestigious crowns because you are the face of the festival and you get a crown and cape!. But since that was the last competition of the day we decided to enter the costume contest to warm up ,get a feel of the stage, and do a few winks to the judges so they would remember us. Here is Madison as a cow girl

I’m a firefighter but I had a wardrobe malfunction.

We didn’t win..little did we know that we needed elaborate props such as a car, a waggon and our parents needed to dress up too. So I have sent mom on the mission to find me a firetruck to ride up in next year!

Next was a best trick contest but we both sat it out. I don’t like doing tricks in public and according to Madison’s mom she isn’t a trick kind of girl..which is good it gave us time to play

So then it was time for Miss Barkroo. Madison did a quick costume change to a very beautiful dress, put her pearls on, and she showed those judges that us westies are very classy.

Then came my turn in Mr. Barkroo. I worked that stage . I’m a model so I hit each corners of the stage, did the westie waddle, and paused to give the judges a chance to see how good looking I am . I was trying to woo them.
However, I guess the westie mojo just wasn’t powerful enough. Both Madison and I didn’t even make it into the top five. They picked all big dogs?!?!? I guess the judges had a thing against little white dogs 🙁 Here are the winners.

Even though we didn’t win. I still had a blast hanging out with Madison and her family. Plus, it was great weather to be outside and I got a nice car ride out of the trip as well.

Here is the link to Barkroo’s website. http://www.barkaroo.com/ I plan to go back next year and try again for the title and I’m bringing a firetruck!
