Recently, we received a copy of the book The Fitzy Resolution by A.D. DeSena to review. It is an interesting book with a unique concept. Being a dog, I always find it fascinating to see how you humans interpret the dog world. I have to admit, she was right on the money on some things, but I took a doggie secret oath so I can’t confirm or deny any details about our secret dog system.
The book is set in the future. The story is centered on Casey, a three-year-old Labrador Retriever, who is the head of the committee of Inter-Canine Communications of the Central Canine Government. Casey must lead an investigation into a series of canine disappearances while also trying to deal with her rival Juniper, a power-hungry Beagle, who is attempting to overthrow the government and become the “top dog.”
The book goes into great detail about the structures dogs have created to govern and communicate between each other. It even sheds light on how the cat, squirrel, and bird governments operate.
The dogs that have homes face a very large threat from rebel forces of stray dogs called the “wilds.” These “wilds” want to have access to their humans and their human’s food so they invade their neighborhood blocks. This is a major threat to canine national security that Casey must address to save her way of life.
The central location of the canine government is nowhere else than the town’s dog park. The elected dogs meet regularly at the park to vote on canine legislation. Where do the political lobbyists spend their time you ask? At the veterinary hospital! Lobbyists know that the elected officials’ owners will have to take them there at some point for at least regular checkups. Plus, what better place to get an “ear” of someone in power than while they are “captive” at the vet’s office.
This book is a unique mix of science fiction, government policy, and animal issues, all shaped up into one very creative novel by A.D. DeSena.
