1.2 Million Animals Adopted!

Written by Rachel Phelps

What can happen when good animal welfare people with the help of a major pet food company and the leading animal rescue center in the US bands together for a common cause — 1,267,541 dogs and cats got their forever home over these past holidays! We were over the moon when we got the e-mail with the official results of the Iams Home 4 the Holidays adoption campaign that ran from October 1st to January 1st. Since I know you read ALL my blog posts you already know that us at PrestonSpeaks.com had played a roll in this huge undertaking. We were able to successfully have the month of December declared in Daviess County and Owensboro, Kentucky as OHS/Iams Home 4 the Holidays Adoption Month. OHS also had a holiday open house and pet photos with Santa all which benefited the campaign and brought awareness to pet adoption..

Pet blogs also partnered with Iams to donate over 5 million bowls of food to shelters and rescues all over the world to help out the animals who are still waiting for their perfect forever home. So we are so happy that Iams and the Helen Woodward Animal Center was able to successfully implement such a huge task and help so many animals!

However, with all the celebrating still in the back of my mind I am thinking I bet there isn’t 1.2+ million empty cages now in animal shelters and rescues. Unfortunately, there are animals who followed these success stories and took their place now waiting for their new families. Us as a society has to figure out how we can deal with the animal over population problem. Even though I love Joey from www.HelpJoey.com I don’t think having the talk with them will work. Spay/Neuter programs is the key! So we need to keep adopting and keep fixing. But today lets all celebrate that 1,267,541 animals had Christmas with their forever families last month because of the great people at Iams, Helen Woodward Animal Center, and the 4,000 partner animal welfare agencies through out the world!
