Wesite Walk of Indiana 2011

Written by Rachel Phelps

Do you live in Indiana? Or close enough to Indianapolis that you can drive in? Also, are you a westie or a friend of a westie (you’re my pal..so you count!) IT IS WESTIE WALK Time!!! On THIS Saturday, September 24th from 9:00 – noon at the Riviera Club is the 3rd annual Westie Walk of Indiana. I went last year and it was so much fun that I just had to help out this year.

There is going to be SO much fun stuff to do including dog games. They are having musical hoops, longest tail contest (no comment..my tail is short I learned last year..but it is crooked..so I have an excuse), and a doggie kissing booth. The Dog Scouts will be there too. I can’t wait to learn more about them. It is modeled after the boy scouts where your dog earns badges for activities such as agility, obedience, rally, etc. and you can even go to a summer dog camp! A silent auction will be held with all funds going to Westie Med, a great organization that helps cover the medical bills of westies in need as well as Westie Rescue of Indiana. They give out awards for a photo contest (I so entered as did Elvis!), and there will even be a blessing of the dogs. Mom says it can’t hurt we like to get in trouble a lot. There is a parade of rescues (Elvis is walking in it). The big event of the day is we walk though a neighborhood led by bagpipes (how cool is that!) Last year there was 120 westies all doing the westie waddle through town. It was quite a sight to say the least! Little white dogs everywhere!!!

Here are some photos from last year and my write up with even more photos! http://www.prestonspeaks.com/2010/10/12/westie-walk-2010-the-recap/

So if you live anywhere close you HAVE to come! It is so much fun. To register please go to: http://www.westiewalksofindiana.com/
