Bad to the Bone Book Review

Written by Rachel Phelps

Well I have decided I needed to be a more educated dog so with the help of our local Borders going out of business and all pet books 70% off I stocked up. Over the next couple of months I am going to start doing book reviews on the dog friendly books I come across. I would like to start with Bad to the Bone: Memoir of a Rebel Doggie Blogger by Bo Hoefinger of dogster.com’s “For the Love of Dog” Blog.
I was kinda nervous reading another dog written book. Us doggies have the same insecurities you humans have. Is he a better writer than me? Is he funnier than me? Does he have better toys and chew sticks than me? But once I started reading the book I couldn’t stop. It was so funny and witty! At some points he had me laughing so hard I had to run to the back door and ask to go out because I was about to wet my parents bed. The book follows Bo from the time he was chosen from a local animal shelter through his senior years. There are also special features such as Bo’s favorite Quotes and the top ten reasons why I love my mom..number one being “she feeds me.” He also gets a cat friend along the way as well. What I like so much about Bo is his way to share with you humans how we think and why we do what we do. Here are some of my favorite quotes from Bo:

–“To a dog, the area around the vet’s office was akin to a mailbox after a two-week vacation: totally stuffed. There were many messages to check, and it was going to take a long time to go through them all and reply.”

–“What Huckleberry was not a purebred?, “Harley has a drinking problem.” “Rily called Pumkin a b**ch.” — I don’t like that kind of language, but truth be told she did have pups last year.”

“They didn’t need to say a thing. I already knew my mother cheated on me that day with another dog. It was written all over her face, but more enlightening were the smells embedded in her jeans and shirt. She’d had more than a chance encounter, that I was sure. But this is nothing new. All canines are forced to face the consequences of their owner’s wandering hands. It’s in their genes. “

Overall I give this book four paws up and here is a link to it on Amazon. I like this book so much I even marked on it so make sure everyone knew it was mine, much to my mom’s dismay. Hehehe

  • Hi Preston…this is Bo, author of BTTB. I just came across your review and wanted to thank you for the kind words. You are obviously a very smart boy who has excellent taste. Tell your mom to give you an extra treat tonight for a job well done.

I also wanted to let all your readers know that my book is dedicated to all the rescue and shelter workers who make this world a better place, one animal at a time. I donate a portion of my proceeds to dog rescue.

    Woof!
