Today I wanted to blog about why dogs need pals. I am an only dog in my house. I have three cats who live with me but they only tolerate my presence sometimes. So that is why mommy and daddy try really hard to make sure I have a lot of doggie friends to play with. Dogs are pack animals and we love being around other dogs. We love our humans but they don’t like to play the way we love to play. We love to chase each other, growl, sniff butts, and roll around in the dirt together. No matter how hard I try I can’t get mom to roll in the dirt with me. She just won’t do it. You humans just don’t know how much fun getting dirty is!
Recently, mom and dad took me to Nashville to meet up with some of my westie united pals(my dogester group) for a weekend long play date. Ok the real reason for going to Nashvegas is for the rents to do some research on local hotels for this summers big westie meet. But the reason I came along was to play and hang out with my westie pals. Darby and Baby C were here as well as Sparky and Morgan. Sparky and Morgan are our senior dogs who just don’t like to play as much as us younger pups do. Don’t tell them I said this but I think they are kinda cranky sometimes. But then again when I’m 10 and 13 I may be cranky too. Darby is about my age 2 1/2 but she has a younger sister Baby C who is four and 1/2 months old. And that pup can play! I think she has worn out poor Darby. When I got there it was like “Thank you Preston…you take over playing with Baby C tonight…I’m taking a nap!”
But back to the topic at hand..dogs need to be socialized so we learn all the dog rules of what is accepted and what isn’t. If your an only dog convence your parents to look into local doggie social groups or take you to a local dog park. Trust me you will get a lot of doggie friends if you know how to play!
Here are some photo of my pals!
