Prestonspeaks.com has the honor to be included in the Bark It Furward a program created to raise awareness and funds for Canine Assistants, a non-profit organization that trains and provides service dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities and the Milk-Bone® brand’s long-time charitable partner since 1997. For nearly 20 years, Canine Assistants has provided 1,000 service dogs to people across the country, giving them the chance to have more independent lifestyles.
Many people in need of a service dog depend on Canine Assistants to pay for the lifelong care of the dog. Without the help of any government funding, Canine Assistants relies on the generosity and private donations made by philanthropic partners, like Milk-Bone®, to help pay for the training of these special needs dogs.
What is Canine Assistants?
This organization was formed in 1991 by Jennifer Arnold. At any one time about 120 dogs are trained on her 18 acre farm to be assistance dogs. Some dogs help people who have mobility difficulties while others are seizure response dogs for individuals who have epilepsy, while finally some dogs are taught to be diabetic response dogs. Mostly Golds and Labs are trained. Canine Assistance has a breeding program for their dogs with a vet on site. They breed their own dogs because training starts at just two days old. It typically takes a year and a half to fully train them. Currently their waiting list has over 2,000 individuals.
Canine Assistants are a vital part to many children and adults with special needs. Here is how you can help, it is easy and doesn’t cost you anything except a few moments of your time!

My Scottie boy Boomer’s favorite treats were Milk Bones. The box was left in front of his food bin–when he wanted a bone, he’d go over and nudge the box. 🙂
Jax LOVES Milk Bones. He even has a Milk Bone ball that my Hubby ordered from Milk Bone years and years ago. Yay! Rah! Milk Bone!
I use to eat milk bones when I was a kid. My Pomeranian, She-ra, and I would hide under the bed and eat them together. My mom would be looking for me, “Are you eating the dog snacks again? I could give you a cookie you know!” But no, I wanted the delicious milk bone. After all, if it was good enough for She-ra it was good enough for me.

Milkbone has always been one of our favorite treats (and I love their logo goodies too) and they do wonderful things to give back.
The people who care for and train Canine Assistants are the most loving people you want to meet. Thank you Milkbone for helping keep this program alive!
Milkbone and Canine Assistants make it possible for children like my granddaughter to receive a canine ‘lifesaver’.
Thank you
