SF Day 1 — Trolley Cars & the Fisherman’s Wharf

To catch up on my adventures check out : Traveling by Plane and San Fransisco Here I Come — Hotel Triton

So day one in California we were determined to ride a trolley car and see the ocean. So off we went for the day. I decided to wear my “tree hugger” shirt which got alot of compliments and head pats. However, I do have a bone to pick with the trolley car people..I Preston Peabody had to wear a muzzle on the trolley cars, street cars, and the city buses!! Like I was going to bite anyone..maybe lick them but bite no way. That muzzle made me look like a mean dog. The trolley car wasn’t much fun…those hills were crazy steep and mommy held me really tight because we were sliding all over the place. We got off the trolley car and I got that muzzle off as fast as possible at this famous twisty street. First I have to ask what drugs was the people on when they designed Lombard Street. It has eight turns and has the distinction of being the crookedest [most winding] street in the world. So we checked it out. In true Westie fashion I had to run down the steps and then run up the steps with my mom struggling to keep up with me. Here is some photos of me at the famous landmark.

First we checked out the Maritime National Park wharf on Pier 45. Then we quickly learned I wasn’t allowed on the pier. No idea why I could cause so much trouble on a pier..for pete sake its not like I can chew up the boards, or splash you. But my dad is a sweet talker and the super nice park ranger said as long as daddy held me I could go check it out. So off we went and daddy quickly learned what mom had the day before a 19 pound dog gets very heavy, very quickly. We checked out some old boats such as the USS Pampanito and SS Jeremiah O’Brien. They had old sail boats too. So after a few photos and oooohhh and awes I was carried back to the beginning of the pier.

Next was lunch. We ate outside at an Italian restaurant and I just tried to stay out of the way from all the tourists as they walked by. I know you are all wrapped up in seeing the pier but us dogs are shorter than you and we don’t like to be stepped on!! Next we went to fishermans wharf to to shopping and see the sea lions. I swear I learn something every day ..who knew there was lions in the water and there was alot of them. They are kinda smelly (fishy) and they like to sleep on these floating things. We watched them a long time and even took some photos.

Shopping was fun there was a dog store where mom stocked up on her Westie gear. She got Westie socks, a Westie ornament, a Westie magnet, and a Westie mug. They gave me a treat too and made over me! Next was the sock store where I was one tired pup. This store was all socks but none for us doggies so I just layed down in the middle of the store and my new buddies Ed and Debbie gave me a belly rub. They have a doggie too but he had to stay at home. We are now facebook friends!  We finally checked out the bread!

We ended the day with dinner with another one of my Houston friends Dan who was there for a conference. I missed you Jenny but I understand you were under the weather. On the way back to the trolley stop we stopped at the dog poison shop otherwise known as Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. Oh everything smelled so good and the parents bought some chocolate. But mom had to keep reminding me that chocolate would make me very sick and I can’t have any..Life is so unfair! We road the trolley back said goodbye to Dan and back to the hotel in which I fell asleep right away, what a day!
