Westies Unite Meet & Greet 2010 – Part 1

Written by Rachel Phelps

Hello world, now that I have returned from one of the very best trips of my life so far I want to share with you my weekend with the westies.  This will be  multiple posts over the next week or so because I have so much to share.  The Westie meet was sponsored by Westie Unite a group on www.dogster.com.   It is a very active group on there with over a thousand members.  There is always someone posting on their space and there are very active and involved moderator puppies that make sure conversation is a flowing.   A fun filled weekend was planned which went from Friday through Sunday.  However, due to mommy’s work, lack of vacation time, and the dog Friday after 5 event  I decided to not go to the events on Friday but leave right after Friday after 5 and attend all the Saturday events.  So Friday evening  mommy loaded up the car with everything but the kitchen sink it seems and we hit the road for a four hour road trip to Cumberland Falls Kentucky.  Now I was already tired from my big day so I fell asleep in mommy’s arms for most of the trip. However, once we got close to Cumberland falls the road got so curvy and up  one hill and down another.  But we finally arrived at Eagle Falls Resort.  Please note  the use of the word resort loosely.  The website makes it look very nice however, the place left a lot to be desired . There was no internet, no  frig, and not even a phone in the room which isn’t good because there is no cell phone reception so your totally cut off from the world.  However, they allowed us doggies to stay and most hotels don’t because they all assume we are bad dogs.  So we got in around midnight and there was a sign on the door that said no check-ins after 11 pm.  I thought mommy was going to flip! She had told the person she talked to that they would be arriving late and no one mentioned that she had to get there at a certain time.   The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so it is not like you can just go to another hotel down the road especially with a dog.  Luckily she found a family member of the owner and they woke him up to check us in.   When we got to the room it was interesting to say the least.  I liked it because there was a lot of smells to investigate but I guess that’s not a good thing when you’re staying in a hotel room.  The bathroom was kinda gross and mommy and daddy shared a pair of crocs to use as shower shoes.  Lucky for me Mommy brought my crate and bed so I got all the amenities of home.  Mommy and Daddy weren’t so lucky 🙂    Here is me when we first arrived see I’m ready to go have fun (don’t you just love the bedspread)!
