Preston’s pick of the week – Operation Roger

Recently, I stumbled across a great group of truck drivers who want to help us animals out.  This non-profit organization through the use of volunteer professional truck drivers as they travel throughout the country transport lost, abandoned, recued, or left behind pets  to new protective homes.  The founder Suz Wiese, who is a truck driver, decided she had to do something after Katrina hit.  So she called a radio trucking talk show and pitched the idea that truck drivers could transport animals to new homes and to rescue groups who have the space and resources to take these animals in.   Transports for rescue groups is always a very difficult and these truck drivers offer a much needed resource.  According to their website they have fifty driver volunteers as well as others who act as coordinators and layover homes for these animals up and down the interstates.  If you’re a truck driver and don’t mind a doggie hitch hiker along for the ride contact Operation Roger Truckers Pet Transport on their website at www.operationroger.rescuegroups.org. If if you’re not a truck driver there are ways to get involved too.  They need people to meet the truck drivers at a truck stops or travel plazas to give them the animal to transport, transfer them to another truck, or handed off to a rescues so they can start their new life.

I think this is a great organization and gets two paws up from me.  Plus, what fun for the doggies that get transported, to be able to stick their head out of a semi and feeling the wind hit their face as they cross the country to their new forever home!
