Recently, Mom, Dad and I attended a Mega Adoption event in Nashville, Tennessee in which more than one hundred dogs were “looking for their lost owners”. Pedigree and Dollar General partnered to host this dog adoption event. In case you didn’t know, both companies are based out of the Nashville area.
We were so impressed with the event! It was right beside a dog park (yes, I did sneak off at one point to go have some fun … hehehe) and over fourteen local Nashville rescues and shelters brought their dogs (and cats too) to be adopted. The Nashville Predators (hockey) mascot and dancers also participated to take photos and help adopt out doggies.
At the start of the event we learned about the Pedigree Feeding Project. This is an innovative project that supplies Nashville shelters with all of their dog food needs at absolutely no cost. As a result of Pedigree donating all this food, it frees up the very limited funds of the rescues to go toward other pressing needs such as the animal medical care. Also, Dollar General and Pedigree presented six grants at the adoption event to these participating shelters to help aid their adoption program and find more dogs loving homes.
Then it was time to show off the dogs needing homes. They recruited volunteers to be dog walkers for the day. Each volunteer was assigned an adoptable dog and it was their job to walk that dog all around the event and get that dog adopted. I made friends with several of these doggies and take my word they would make a great edition to someone’s family. There were also several large tents set up full of homeless pets. I visited with many of the rescues and wished all of the doggies the best in being adopted.
One really cool thing at the adoption event was that whenever a doggie was adopted the new family rang a big bell. Everyone cheered and clapped! I know the movie saying is “every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings” … but I disagree! It should be “every time a bell rings, a doggie finds his forever home!” By the end of the event, that bell had rang 58 times. That means in just one day, 58 dogs can now say they are finally home!
If you missed this adoption event, don’t worry. This Saturday there is an even bigger one being held in the Nashville area on October 13th. It is the 4th annual Mars Pet care Adoption Fair. There will be twenty-five rescue groups in attendance at their corporate headquarters. For more details and to get directions, (you’re coming aren’t you?) go to:
