Terrier Thursday Adoptable Animals

Meet Dandy

Eleventh Hour Rescue Rockaway, NJ

Dandy was going to be sold to a laboratory but EHR swooped in & saved this boy from a fate worse than death. He had spent most of his life in a cage & as a result, he cannot be crated because he becomes very protective of his crate. His behavior is understandable when you know what his life had been before EHR rescued him. He will need an owner with training experience who is willing to put the time & patience into helping Dandy recover from the traumatic start to his life.

Dandy is an adorable young boy who is 2 years old & weighs 22 lbs. He’s a sweet pup who makes friends with people shortly after meeting them but does have some food aggression and will nip. For that reason, he would do best in an all-adult household with people who are willing to work on this issue with him.

Dandy, like many terriers, can be very loyal & a bit possessive of “his” people and things. This also makes him a very loving & devoted companion. When he sees you coming, he is so excited & happy, wagging his tail & wanting to shower you with puppy kisses.

But Dandy can exhibit “little dog syndrome” as he has a big personality in a little body. He needs someone who is patient & willing to put the time into training him so that he learns his place in the pecking order in the household. Dandy has good house manners – he doesn’t destroy anything & has no separation anxiety. He really could be a wonderful pet if the right person would be willing to spend the time helping him realize his full potential.
