My brother and sister cats are so demanding! Yes, I just wrote that. I guess now I need to watch my tail … I have a feeling I am getting scratched soon … hehehe. Anyway, let me tell you about a typical morning in our house.
Elvis and I have to take turns sleeping in the rents bed (ok, there was a dog jealously issue years ago that created this silly rule … but back to the story). The cats on the other hand, get to sleep in the bed every night. They are bed hogs and push us dogs down to the foot of the bed every night. If we say no, that we are not going to move, the claws come out and we quickly retreat.
Then, at the crack of dawn, they actually have the nerve to wake up the rents demanding breakfast! My cat brother Pibb climbs all over their heads and paws at them. My cat sister Pepper starts meowing! Now if we dogs were to even think of barking in the morning, Mom and Dad would get mad and banish us from the bedroom. But does that happen to the cats?? … Never! The rents actually get up to go and feed them and many times go back to bed. It is just unbelievable. We have a double standard in our house, that is for sure.
I asked Mom why they get away with this. She said cats are grazers by nature so they need to eat more often than us dogs to stay healthy and happy. She also said the cats must really like their food to wake us up every morning.
So I decided to ask my pals at Hills about their new Ideal Balance cat food and if it was good for my grazing cats. They said that their new line of cat food has products for breakfast, nibbles, treats, and supper. My land, I want to be a cat and eat four or five times a day! I got online and picked out the perfect day of meals for Pepper and Pibb. Here is what I picked:
- Breakfast – Hill’s Ideal Balance Roasted Turkey. This canned cat food has gourmet real turkey and brown rice, with a touch of carrots and greens.
- Nibbles – Hill’s Ideal Balance Grain-Free Natural Chicken and Potato Recipe. This grain-free cat food has chicken, green peas, apples, cranberries, carrots, and broccoli.
- Treats – Hill’s Ideal Balance Crunchy Naturals with Real Tuna. These natural cat treats have fish … and trust me, they taste good (No, I will never admit I stole a mouthful when Mom looked away from the treat bag).
- Supper – Hill’s Ideal Balance Slow-Cooked Chicken Recipe. This healthy cat food (canned) has real chicken, brown rice, carrots, and greens in a yummy sauce (So I have heard).
Maybe my cats will appreciate me more after designing this great menu for them. Maybe they will even let me sleep in the middle of the bed tonight. Well, I know that will never happen … but a dog can hope can’t he?
When I shared my menu with my pals at Hill’s, they told me I was quite the meal planner. Then they said, “What if we gave TWENTY of your readers a cat gift basket filled with some of your menu items?” I said sure! I bet my readers would love to try out the new food.
The Ideal Balance Cat Gift basket includes:

No my cats do not wake me up for breakfast.
If I sleep in, I usually have at least one or two that nudge me awake.
My wonderful cat, Quinn, does not usually wake me up in the morning for food. Usually it’s for petting… But it’s because I learned a long time ago to put food in the cat’s dish before I go to bed. Petting the cat is so relaxing she is satisfied and I can catch a few more winks of sleep! She thinks she’s spoiled. Is she??
Love a gift basket, hope some good little kitties win, if not Quinn
Yes, they do. They start very early…around 5 a.m.
