Westie Walk 2011 – The Recap

Written by Rachel Phelps

A few weekends ago I attended the Westie Walk in Indianapolis sponsored by Westie Rescue Indiana.. And I was very nice and decided to bring Elvis along too. As soon as the rents got off work we loaded up the car and off we went for the four hour car ride. I think we were good dogs overall. We both had half the back seat. Elvis slept the whole way and I wined (ok I think that may have gotten on mom’s nerves) but I wasn’t happy that I had to share the back seat. I am use to being the ONLY dog on trips. So we get to the hotel late and go to bed. Did I mention that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE staying in hotels. As soon as I get into the room I make a run for the bed and get under the covers..it is so much fun!

The next day we got up bright and early to go to the westie walk. There was about 145 westies and we all went a walking. We were quite a sight and stopped traffic more than once hehehe. They had a photo contest and Elvis and I won best of show for our photo of us together as well as 1st place in best group photo. I also won best of the use of props and costumes category for my photo of me as a ninja! So needless to say we cleaned up on the awards hehehehe. I also had a basket in the silent auction to help raise money for Westie Meds.

However, one thing I wasn’t prepared for was that I wasn’t the center of attention— Elvis was. His whole puppy mill story and he wanting to be carried around by my mom everywhere made the humans go crazy for him. He got to walk in the rescue parade while I had to stay on she sidelines. He was even called up to the mic and mom told his story since not everyone knows dog. I admit I got very jealous and didn’t show my best side and I barked alot. But overall I had alot of fun and I made a video to show you my experience. Ok, I know the song is very over done but I couldn’t think of a better song for an event with so many dogs!
