All of our pet parents know how special us dogs are. They also know how we can help people by being service dogs, therapy dogs, emotional support dogs, or even just being a great pet. Recently, our pals at PetArmor told us about an amazing dog program called Operation Freedom Paws. Since today is Veteran’s day, I thought it would be the perfect day to share the story of Operation Freedom Paws with my pals.
Operation Freedom Paws is a great program that matches war veterans, many with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and other invisible wounds, with shelter dogs. Through a thirty-two week program, Operation Freedom Paws trains veterans and their new service dogs to become a team. This unique approach leverages the power of the canine-human relationship to help veterans regain their sense of purpose, worth, and value to society and their community.
Marty Cortani, the founder and executive director, has been named one of CNN’s 2012 top ten heroes for the work she has done with Operation Freedom Paws. So … after you watch this great video below, please, if you feel so inclined, vote for Marty Cortani and Operation Freedom Paws to become the 2012 CNN “Hero of the Year”.
