I am one excited doggie! I, Sir Preston Peabody Phelps (that’s my AKC name), have been invited to attend the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship this weekend.
Yes, you read that right, I have been invited to attend the top dog show and compete!! Ok, full disclosure … I can’t win best in show because … well … I’m not a show dog, and … I am not up to any sort of breed standards, and well … I’m what they call pet quality stock. With all that said, I will be competing in the 2nd Annual Blogger Stakes! This is where the Eukanuba bloggers compete in the best in show ring and actually have a conformation dog show (with a judge and everything). The bloggers get to borrow the nation’s top show dogs and be their handler. Well, everyone but my Mom. Yep, I have claimed her! I’m entering the ring and competing for this ultimate Blogger Stakes title!
I have been training too! My pals at the AKC River City Kennel Club have taken me under their wing and gave Mom and I a thirty-minute crash course on how to show. We learned that I can’t have a leash with poop bags on the end, I need to have pretty feet, I am supposed to do something called stacking, and the best part … unlike any other AKC event I have entered … I can eat as many treats as I want in the show ring! Also, my amazing groomer Mark has given me a westie show dog cut complete with hand stripping!
But seriously, I have been invited as a special guest of Eukanuba to give you all a dog’s perspective on what this dog show is really like. I have access to areas pets are not allowed and I will be meeting and interviewing (well sniffing) many famous dogs and future champions. I will leave no crate unturned and no treat not taste tested to give you the full scoop on the Eukanuba National Championship that only a blogging dog can give you.
Some of the highlights include: The Eukanuba World Challenge (Go my pal London!), AKC Agility Invitational, AKC National Juniors Agility Competition, AKC National Obedience Invitational, AKC National Juniors Obedience Competition, AKC Junior Showmanship Finals, dock diving, and the celebrate dogs! event.
