Best Friends Pet Care serves holiday meals to shelter pets

Written by Rachel Phelps

My pals at Best Friends Pet Care told me about what they do for Thanksgiving!  Sorry about the post being days after the holidays.  But what can you do when your human is under the weather?
Roasted turkey, vegetables and sweet potatoes:  it sounds like the menu for many family Thanksgiving dinners.
But this feast being served to hundreds of homeless pets at more than two dozen animal shelters around the country, courtesy of Best Friends Pet Care.
Each year, Best Friends serves Thanksgiving dinner to the family pets boarding at the company’s 42 pet care centers during the holiday.  The meal features slices of turkey atop turkey-and-rice dog food, favorite vegetables like green beans and sweet potato.
In the spirit of the holiday, Best Friends staff members are making extra turkeys and delivering them to local animal shelters so that homeless pets have the chance to enjoy a special treat, too.
“We’re so happy to be able to share the holiday with these needy pets,” said Renee Coughlin, Vice President of Marketing for Best Friends Pet Care. “We wish every dog could have a special treat on Thanksgiving, especially those waiting to be brought into a loving home.”
The feast is being delivered and served by Best Friends staff to each shelter during the week before Thanksgiving.   Among the more than two dozen beneficiary shelters are the Baypath Humane Society in Hopkinton MA, the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland NJ, the Southside Animal Shelter in Indianapolis IN, Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control in Charlotte NC, and the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, CA.
This is the sixth year that Best Friends Pet Care has hosted its Thanksgiving feast. Best Friends Pet Care is a leading national pet care company and offers boarding, doggy day camp and grooming at 42 locations across 18 states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
