Recently, I had the opportunity to design my own leash! Yep, you heard that right, I got to make a leash that fits my Westie personality!
Flexi has a neat option in their myflexi product line in which you can create your own leash. You design the leash on their website and then they ship it to you. There are three easy steps to designing your own leash:
Pick what size leash you want. All of them have a sixteen foot cord leash in the handle but its thickness and strength depends on the size of your dog. The one for small dogs holds dogs up to twenty-six pounds, medium holds up to fourty-four pounds, and the large one holds up to one hundred and ten pounds.
Next, pick the color of your leash. You have eight colors to pick from: red, black, blue, green, gray, purple, brown, and pink. I picked blue because … well … dogs can see the color blue, so it obviously stood out for me. Plus, since blue is easy for me to spot, I am able to know where my leash is from across the room.
Now the hard part. What images/pictures do you want to upload to put on each side of the leash? You get to design both sides. Flexi has high quality printers and they take your photo and put it in a vinyl sticker so your design is protected from the elements. On one side I put my logo, and on the other I wanted to put my photo. However, Mom vetoed that and said you need to include your brother Elvis as well. He will use this leash too! So I compromised and put a photo of both of us with our names above it. I wanted to make sure no one got confused and used our leash!
Once we ordered the leash we got an e-mail from a Flexi graphic designer that said there was a problem with the photo Mom had uploaded (you can’t trust those humans to do the job right). This guy was great to work with. We sent him the photo and he recreated exactly what we wanted.
I know there is a lot of controversy around the use of retractable leashes. I admit, I use one sometimes, but only in certain situations. I like it because it because it gives me more flexibility to explore. This is great when we go to our local park with trails or the greenbelt trail around town. However, we don’t use them at events where there are a lot of people and a lot of dogs around to get all tangled up.
