FreshPet Review

Written by Rachel Phelps

Recently, we had the opportunity to try out the product line for Freshpet inspired by nature. These foods are natural, fresh, and refrigerated pet food. And all I can say is yum, yum, yum, and yum! Elvis and I loved every flavor and every product! We ate it so fast that mom joked that how was I going to be able to write a review when I ate them so quickly surely I couldn’t even taste them.

All the products are fresh (all have been cooked, pasteurized, and cooled to reduce bacteria), So they must be refrigerated right away. The products can be frozen but Freshpet states that they never freeze the product before you buy it at your local pet store.

Here are my opinions about Feshpets products I was able to try .

Vital — These are very delicious food rolls. They are all meat based, and grain and potato free. All are pasteurized and ready to serve out of the refrigerator. All have natural ingredients with added vitamins and minerals. The recipes contain 80% or more animal protein, providing an easily digestible and 100% complete and balanced meal. Vital’s assortment of recipes offers a wide variety of meat, poultry or fish, ensuring a meal that better matches a diet naturally found in the wild.

Serving size is 5-20 pounds dogs ¼ to ½ lbs a day (the package has a nifty ruler on the side so your parents can cut out exactly what you need)
21-40 pound dogs ½ to 1 cup a day
41-60 pound dogs 1 to 1 ½ cups a day
61-100 pound dogs 1 ¼ to 1 ⅔ cups a day

There are three flavors

  • Bison and Beef Recipe with spinach, berries, and pomegranate It is 85% bison, beef, and liver and 10% fruits and vegetables
  • Salmon and Ocean Whitefish Recipe with spinach, berries, and pomegranate. It is 80% salmon and 10% fruits and vegetables.
  • Chicken, Beef, Salmon, and Egg Recipe It is 90% Chicken, Beef, Salmon, and eggs and 10% fruits and vegetables.

This product was delicious and according to mommy very easy to prepaire for us each night. She just cut off a chunk and mashed it up with a fork on a paper plate and we quickly wolfed it down.

Next we tried out the FreshPet Select Homestyle. These are nice sized chunks of chicken or lamb mixed with vegetables and wholesome grains in a yummy gravy. The packaging is also in a re-sealable container (10.25 oz). Elvis and I split the container for our evening meal. Mom said everything looked like human food and smelled almost good enough to eat. Over all I give these homestyle meals two paws up.

But you can’t have dinner without dessert and they sent me a yummy treat called Dognation Treats in chicken flavor. They are healthy and natural treats fresh from the fridge. Everything in them are all natural and they added B vitamins to help us doggies metabolize the nutrients and release the energy in our diets. There are no corn, wheat, or soy in the treats. The guidelines is one treat per day per ten pounds of body weight. But I can tell you from experience if your mom happens to give you more..it is still ok.

I was actually sad when we finished all the Freshpet food and treats. We were such good dogs waiting for our dinners because the food was so yummy!. To learn more about these great healthy food visit www.freshpets.com. On this website there is also a store locater that will tell you what speciality pet stores in your area carry these products.

Overall I give Freshpets four paws and two Westie ears up!
