Doggie Daily Life

Preston’s Very Merry Christmas and Birthday Party

Written by Rachel Phelps

I just had my second birthday (I was born on Christmas day) and I just couldn’t have my special event pass by without some fun. So I convinced my mom I needed my very own birthday party! So a few weeks ago my mom threw together an amazing party under my direction. First it had to have an awesome name and theme. We decided to have a Christmas/snowman theme and call it Preston’s Very Merry Christmas and Birthday Party. Then we needed a place so we contacted the a local pet facility and they said “sure we love you Preston use our facility” hehehe. The tough part was deciding on the guest list. I have so many good dog pals but many of them live to far away to come. I didn’t want to leave anyone out if I could help it. So I sent invites and used the power of social media to invite people as well. Mom went shopping for the decorations and she did a great job here is a  photo.

Once everyone arrived the humans had pizza and birthday cake (they got chocolate..how unfair is that!). But my parents had a surprise for me..doggie ice cream and doggie Brownies. They made sunday’s for all of us.

Next it was time for party games. I had a great one planned. Doggie pinata! Mom filled a snowman pinata full of dog treats. Lucky for us I invited a big dog named Dottie who loves to shred boxes so we let her do most of the work. When she got it open there was so many treats! We all went crazy running around and eating!

Of course there was plenty of play time. I had balls and chew sticks all around. However, my foster brother Elvis was sneaky and when we weren’t looking would “steal” the toys and hide them in a corner.

Another highlight of my party was finally meeting my real sister Daisy. My dog parents had a litter after mine and she was from that group. Everyone was so shocked how much we looked alike. What do you think?

But the best part of the night was the generosity of my guests. I asked them to bring a bag or food, donation, or toy for the animals at our local shelter. We collected enough toys, food, and treats for every dog and cat at the shelter to have a Christmas gift.

The surprise of the night was the gift mom and dad got me…my very own fire hydrant for the backyard! I haven’t been able to try it out yet because mom has to put a couple of coats of varnish on it first to protect it. But I can’t wait!
