June 25th take your dog to work day

Written by Rachel Phelps

Hello world! I wanted to help get the word out about a great day for us Doggies. It is take your dog to work day. It is this Friday June 25th! Unfortunately my home town is not very dog friendly (oh the stories I could tell you) so my mommy and daddy’s work does not allow dogs not even on this special day ☹ So I can’t give you a first hand account from a doggie reporter in the field. However, if you’re lucky enough to take your dog to work with you there is a wonderful contest you should enter. It is sponsored by Pet Sitters International, Dog Fancy and Association of Pet Dog Trainers. Go to www.takeyourdog.com and upload your professional pooch photo. If you are taking your dog to work Dog Fancy has some tips to make the day stress free for your dog and your co-workers.

  1. Do an office check – check with your boss and co-workers to see if anyone is allergic or hs problems with one of us dogs spending the day with you.
  2. Puppy-proof your work space – Remove poisonous plants, and hide electrical cords and wires. I bit into one of those cords as a pup and after a frantic trip to the vet I was ok. But I never go near those evil cords again so make sure you put those up away from those puppies.
  3. Bathe and groom your dog — no one likes a smelly dog….well except for another dog
  4. Prepare a doggie bag -– Please remember to include food and a water bowl for us. We are going to be hungry after a busy morning at the office and your co-workers might not like us drinking from the water cooler. P.s. Doggies bags are good too…..you know we are going have to go at some point.
  5. Avoid forcing co-workers to interact with us – we know some people aren’t dog people and it is ok if they don’t pet us……we understand.
  6. Have an exit strategy – Not all dogs may like coming to work and if we get there and decide the working life isn’t for us make sure you have a way to take us home.
