I would like to take a break from my every day dog blog to give some love to my feline pals! Just like us dogs, I know they care very much about the food they eat. At the recent Global Pet Expo (a leading pet industry trade show), I attended a luncheon about a great new line of cat food from Hill’s called Ideal Balance that I wanted to share with you, my readers.
My pals at Hills Pet Care wanted to create a new innovative pet food line so they decided to ask our rents, or more commonly called consumers, what they thought. They asked consumers what they would want in a natural pet food if they could design it themselves. If your rents are anything like mine, they have strong opinions about how to keep us healthy and happy. They found that many of the pet parents want good quality ingredients such as fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat-based proteins. While they weren’t totally against corn, wheat, and soy, they wanted these ingredients to be lower in the ingredients list. If you didn’t know, the higher an ingredient is on the list, the more there is of it, and the lower an ingredient is on the list, the less there is of it. Personally, I think they wanted to sneak in more fruit and vegetables in our diets! However, the most important finding was that while it is great that brands want to put all these natural ingredients in dog food, it is more important that these ingredients are in the right portion to keep our feline friends happy and healthy. I totally understand! My sister cat is thirteen years old and is very much a senior cat (but I tell her she doesn’t look a day over two). I know Mom and Dad want to keep her as healthy as possible because that means she will be around longer for all of us.
Next, my pals at Hills took this consumer data and worked with their amazing pet nutritionists to develop a recipe with a very careful selection of high quality, natural ingredients. The result was a new natural cat food line they called Ideal Balance. This food has no corn, wheat, soy, artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.
