Water Please!

Written by Rachel Phelps

If you living anywhere in the midwest or the south you know that this summer has been so dry and hot!  I live in Kentucky and we do have some super hot weather (upper 90’s) at the end of summer but this year it have been so hot since June.  So much that I spend most of my time inside since Mommy is worried about me getting so hot that I get sick.  So today I would like to talk to you all about water.  Yep I know weird topic but since it is my beverage of choice and we need water to be happy healthy animals.

Did you know that us doggies are 60 to 80% water! And if we loose only 10% of that water our organs start shutting and 15% means we cross over to the rainbow bridge L  We are suppose to drink one once per pound per day.  But if it is hot or we have been playing and running around we need more. However, no need to get the measuring cup out just give us a big bowl and we will drink until we know we have had enough.  If we have a water dish outside check it often because in this heat it will evaporate away quickly!

Personally, I share my water dish with my brother and sister cats.  We have one that has a filter and the water is always moving.  My silly brother keeps getting cat litter in the water so the filter cleans out all that mess. I think the water tastes good..litter  adds flavor bol.  But the cats don’t like it much that we have to share.  I drink too much at one time and then the bowl makes weird gargling noises because it needs more water and the cats get all upset because it hurts their ears. They also say I’m messy when I drink and get water out of the bowl.  They don’t want to get their “precious paws” wet getting water! Whatever!?!?!?  What is the deal with cats and water?

So all you dogs..drink up!
