Pet Fashion Week NYC 2010

Written by Rachel Phelps

Hello World! I’m sure if you’re a little dog like me your mommy has several clothing items for us doggies to wear.  I  have to admit I have part of a closet for all my clothes, jackets, collars, and bandanna.  But do you ever wonder who designs all these outfits you see in the dog stores? There is actually a huge industry built around making us look good!  The premier event for the high end vendors is Pet Fashion Week.  It is held in New York City and this year it is August 21st and 22nd.   At this event over 1,800 buyers attend and talk to over 158 companies from 22 countries who are showcasing their latest and greatest designs and products.  NYC fashion Institute of Technology is even involved and their students compete in a dog design contest.    The groomers aren’t left out either.  They have “Styling for Charity”  in which the world’s top groomers auction off their time and talents for dog causes.  Of course there are plenty of fashion shows and doggies walking the “cat walk”.  Here is a video link from 2007.

So I had my doggie bag all packed ready to go to the big city to check out this pet fashion week and mingle with the doggie models and super famous of the dog world. I was even going to buy a bling collar to wear!  But after my mommy researched it they just don’t let any dog in.  You have to be a dog store buyer or a member of the media and a blogger doesn’t count.  So unless a big newspaper decides they need a doggie reporter I’m out of luck. Oh well, maybe next year. Here is a link to the website.  Petfashionweek.com
