Cats

Written by Rachel Phelps

Cats are to a dog which kryptonite is to superman!  I am such a good dog minding my own business and then one of my brothers or sisters comes along and I just have to chase them.  They hiss, they swat, and I end up in trouble for chasing a cat.  First of all I think they egg it on. I am minding my own business and they just have to walk past me or meow, or even just look at me funny.  I also think that they are convinced that if they get me trouble enough that I will get kicked out of the house and they can have the house back the way it was pre-Preston.  According to the AKC 38% of dog houses also have cats so if my math is correct (yes us dogs can do math..we know how many treats are in a box hehehe) that means 38 dogs out of a 100 get in trouble for chasing cats. That’s a lot of doggie timeouts!   I love cats they are the right size to play with and they are fast and they are good a jumping. I have three cats siblings and each one takes a different approach to dealing with me Dr. Pepper the old cat (don’t tell her I called her old…I may get my nose scratched over that comment! ) she avoids me completely and stays up in high furniture when I’m in the room.  Ashes is a bully who will on purpose block door ways or walk up to me just to try get me to bark. But what he doesn’t know is I know he doesn’t have claws even though he acts all tough like “you mess with me I’ll scratch you”..my response is whatever clawless cat what are you doing to do sit on me(he is a big cat)..hehehe.  And then there is Mr. Pibb the closest thing I have to a cat friend.  We actually play a little bit and he lets me chase him.  Btu when he gets fed up with it all rules are off and I get swatted in the nose but never with his claws out because he doesn’t want to hurt me.    Below is a picture of me with Pibb taking a nap. I love cats they just don’t like me…do you have any tips on how I can convince them that a dog can be a good friend to them?
