Recently, Mom and flat Preston had the opportunity to attend the Humane Society of the United State’s Animal Care Expo in Las Vegas. Actually, I (fluffy Preston) could have gone, but Mom vetoed the idea since I am already scheduled to go on my “Cross Country Tail Waggin Tour” later this month. Regardless, flat Preston and Mom went and took some photos for me.

You never know what to expect when you go to a conference you have never been to before. However, I was pleasantly surprised. There were great sessions including “Making The Media Work For You”, “The Harmful Effects of Puppy Mills on Breeding Dogs and Their Puppies” and “Improving Your Volunteer Program.” I met a lot of great people in animal rescue who are doing amazing things for my animal pals. I also learned a lot about what good rescues do differently from the not so good rescues. It was a real eye opener. There are also a lot of unique animal groups that I wasn’t even aware of including a guinea pig rescue and even a puppy mill rescue (Mom picked the founder’s brain on my brother … hehehe!).

Over the next couple of months I’ll be sharing blogs here on PrestonSpeaks.com about some of the best sessions we attended and tips we learned from each. Also, my Mom will be sharing blogs about it as well on The Social Petwork blog where she is a contributing writer (You should check it out!). One of my favorite quotes was from the HSUS president (Wayne Pacelle) when he said “You can’t rescue your way out of the problem, you have to change the public attitudes and laws.”.
