My Barkday Recap

Written by Rachel Phelps

My pals, I had an amazing 3rd barkday this year. I shared my barkday with the birth of Jesus, so needless to say a lot of turkeys and hams are cooked in my honor all over the world … BOL. However, one down side is I can never have a big party on my special day because everyone is busy spending time with their families. So this year, my rents decided since they both had the day off, they were going to get away and give me an extra special day. They surprised me and rented me a cabin in French Lick, Indiana. I was able to bring a friend so I picked Charlie. I was also told I had to bring Elvis along too since we are bros. So it was a boys weekend. The cabin was a two bedroom so I got a whole room for myself and Charlie (Elvis stayed with the rents). Mom brought our crates, beds, and toys. We were right by a lake so we even got to go on some walks, tried to find wildlife, and explored.

On Christmas Eve, we put our stockings up on the fireplace and went to bed early. We didn’t want Santa Paws to skip over our cabin! I didn’t let mom light the fireplace either. I didn’t want Santa Paws to burn his fur when he came down the chimney. I don’t know how Santa Paws does it, because getting past three Westies who are excellent watch dogs is no small feat – but he got in and out and filled up our stockings! We had toys, I got a new collar and sweater, Elvis got a big toy that looks like a snake, and we all got bully sticks. Charlie even got a bag of carrots since he couldn’t have treats. Santa Paws thinks of everything doesn’t he!

Next, we gave Charlie his Christmas present from me and Elvis. This was Charlie’s first Christmas so we wanted to make it special so we gave him some toys of his very own!

After all that playing we were super tired. So we took a nap while the rents cooked Christmas/Preston’s Barkday dinner. They made a turkey which was very, very good.

Then we switched gears and it was time to celebrate my third barkday! Mom and Dad surprised me with some doggie cookies that said “Happy Barkday” (and more carrots for Charlie). They were so good! And of course I got some barkday gifts as well … more toys and a new doggie blanket!

Overall, my Barkday was so much fun with it being a westie guys weekend! I can’t wait to see how my next year will be. I know it will be a lot of fun and many great adventures
